Itâs officially December. Lights are up, trees are out, beautiful decorations already filling our days with some much-needed sparkle. Itâs been a weird year, to say the least, yet the most wonderful time of the year đľ is now with us.
If youâre anything like me, youâre already planning cosy afternoon teas with family and friends. And since the pandemic is still with us and we canât celebrate in the usual ways, whipping up a batch of homemade goodies and sharing them over a glass of mulled wine, with the people we love most, sounds like a perfect plan this December.

1. Vegan Gateau MarieÂ
If youâre after a dessert thatâs rich, decadent and chocolatey, yet couldnât be simpler to make, this oneâs your go-to! It seriously tastes like something coming straight out of a fancy French pâtisserie. Your guests will be blown away, thinking you spent hours on this one when in truth, it takes just 25 minutes to make. But shh, that will be our little secret! đ
2. Baci BallsÂ
While weâre on the topic of simple, these guys couldnât be easier to make. You just chuck all the Baci Balls ingredients into the food processor and coat in melted chocolate. Ta-Da! 𤡠You know what that means, right? You now have more time to make even more desserts and not just the one! And yes, they are the âOut. Of. This. Worldâ kind of good. Definitely not to miss out on!Â
3. Pudina Tal-Hobz (Maltese Bread Pudding)Â
Whether you typically like Bread Pudding or not, it doesnât matter. This oneâs closer to a chocolate fudge brownie in terms of taste and texture than the typical pudding youâre used to. Itâs a solid favourite amongst us Maltesers and some even prefer it to chocolate brownies (for real! Read the article to find out more âď¸). This recipe requires a bit more prep and cook time, yet the result is absolutely worth it.Â
4. Imqaret (Date Slices)Â
Whatâs the first flavour that comes to mind when you think of Christmas? For me, itâs cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and the warm hearty fragrance of winter spices. And thatâs the exact spice blend used to flavour Imqaret. A pastry parcel enveloping a sweet and a slightly spicy mixture of dates with orange undertones… Iâm drooling just thinking of these already. 𤤠They really are something special. And in case youâre not convinced yet, this version is actually high in protein too. You know you want to try them, donât you?Â
5. Coconut BallsÂ
Whatâs not to like about balls? Theyâre easy to make, come in bite-size servings so you donât over-eat (presumably đ), theyâre perfect for sharing and totally giftable… need I go on? These coconut balls make for the perfect accompaniment to the Baci Balls and really give off a festive vibe.Â
6. Healthy Christmas LogÂ
Finally, Christmas wouldnât really be Christmas without Christmas Log, right? đ This Maltese version of the Christmas Chocolate Log is what dreams are made of – really! Itâs like the perfect mash-up between yule log and chocolate salami. Honestly, whatâs not to love?Â
